It’s an adventure into the world-famous sandstone and vibrant culture of Rocklands and Cape Town. Young climbers explore iconic boulders and sport routes, while connecting with the communities and landscapes that make these places extraordinary.
Our program blends climbing with cultural exchange, community service, and environmental stewardship. Here, strength and skill grow alongside perspective, friendship, and connection. Together, we climb, share stories, and learn — not just about South Africa, but from it.

I just wanted to extend my heartfelt thanks for such a remarkable journey through South Africa with The Climbing Collective. Kaito and I came home with full hearts, lasting memories, and a renewed appreciation for the power of community, nature, and adventure.From climbing in Cape Town and Rocklands to hiking Table Mountain, learning new local songs, and sharing deep reflections around the campfire, every moment was meaningful. Kaito especially loved connecting with his Northen CA friends and families, and local climbers, joining the trail service project, and pushing himself through both indoor and outdoor challenges—including his first Gravity Bowl! The thoughtful mix of cultural exchange, environmental stewardship, and skill-building made this so much more than just a climbing trip—it was truly transformative. Kaito called it “life changing.”We’re incredibly grateful to everyone—from Mish, Becks and Jodie to the families and youth who made the experience so special. We are The Southern Climbing Academy, the youth-centric branch of our parent company Breathe In Experiences. We provide youth-focused rock climbing tours and coaching in South Africa for both local and international climbers. Our focus is on creating holistic climbers, both on and off the wall, and providing unique and authentic experiences.

What sets us apart?
Our tours and coaching blend adventure with purpose.
We partner with RAD's Rocklands Climbing School, Dream Higher and other climbing-focused NGOs championing social action and inclusivity. We foster environmental stewardship by planting trees, clearing invasive species, and restoring trails in the climbing areas we visit. It’s less about performance, more about meaningful, shared experiences, learning and personal growth.

School holidays in Rocklands, Northern Cederberg
Mountain adventure camps for South African climbers. Our school camps are the culmination of our extra mural coaching, aimed at using the skills learned at climbing gyms in real mountain settings.
Not an average school camp, these are explorations into our own unique natural heritage and sense of adventure. In an increasingly screen-focused world, these experiences offer school groups on-the-ground learning and play.

The Climbing Collective is a celebration of the interconnectedness of the climbing community.
We invite climbers from all over the world to join us in Cape Town, South Africa, meet South African climbers, learn about South African culture and climb world-class boulders and sport climbs in Rocklands.
EXTRA MURAL COACHING
Cape Town climbing gyms
Get your school involved in the Southern Climbing Academy. Become part of one of fastest growing sports in the world with our Extra Mural Coaching programs in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Our trained Occupational therapists and Sports Scientists design bespoke programs blending focus with fun, building self confidence, self awareness and strength.
Our extra mural coaching programs run throughout the school year, with options for once-weekly or twice-weekly sessions. While not inherently competition-focused, there are opportunities for youth climbers to enter into the competition circuit under our guidance.
